BNS, BNSS and BSA

On 1 July 2024 three new codes replaced the colonial-era criminal statutes. No frontier language model was trained on them, so every general-purpose AI still answers with the old sections.

How Lawmind handles it

  1. An offence before 1 July 2024 is tried under the IPC and CrPC. After that date, under the BNS and BNSS. Any criminal-law answer states which regime applies.

  2. Name an old section and Lawmind shows the new equivalent, and the reverse.

The 2024 codes, briefly

When did the BNS, BNSS and BSA come into force?
On 1 July 2024. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 replaced the Indian Penal Code, 1860; the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 replaced the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973; and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 replaced the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
Which regime applies to my matter?
An offence committed before 1 July 2024 is tried under the IPC and CrPC. An offence after that date is tried under the BNS and BNSS. Lawmind states which regime applies in any criminal-law answer rather than leaving you to infer it.
Do old and new sections map one to one?
Not always. Some sections split and some merge. Where a mapping is not clean, Lawmind says so rather than picking one for you.
Why do general AI tools get the new codes wrong?
No frontier language model was trained on them, so they answer with the old IPC and CrPC sections. Lawmind does not let a model generate a mapping — the mappings are seeded from official sources.
